Ed Sheeran seems to have quite a bit on his plate. The singer’s simple country wedding is getting more complicated – and unlikely – by the minute, and he’s being sued again. The singer’s plan to wed his long-term girlfriend Cheery Seaborn in a flint chapel he wants to build at his Suffolk home might have been pushed back after planning officials rejected his building application. According to The Mirror, the application was rejected by the Suffolk Coastal District Council in January, on grounds that the Saxon-style chapel would ‘conflict with the prevailing character of the landscape.’ Additionally, the 24-seater would could light pollution and ‘create the impression of a second village church.’
Sheeran’s plans were on rocky ground to begin with: the Suffolk Wildlife Trust had expressed concern that the building would disturb a colony of endangered Great Crested Newts that are believed to have made the Shape of You singer’s land their home. Though he had initially said he would conduct an ecological survey to confirm the presence of the birds, the planning application was rejected. Paul Smith, of Apex Planning Consultants, said: ‘The applicant has responded promptly to this matter and has also commissioned an appropriate survey that will identify the presence of great crested newts or otherwise, propose mitigation measures as appropriate and recommend measures to enhance biodiversity.’ ‘We were not aware of the historical presence of great crested newts nearby and certainly believe that none exist in the pond nearby to the application site.’
