A man is fighting for his life after suffering head injuries following an attack on the platform of a north London tube station.
Emergency services were called to West Hampstead station just before 4.30pm this afternoon after reports of a man being attacked.
Pictures from the scene showed people being turned away at the entrance to the station, with ambulances and police cars lined outside.
One commuter reported seeing ‘blood on the platform’ as her train passed through the station without stopping.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: ‘We were called to West Hampstead underground station shortly before 4.30pm on Friday, 29 June, following reports of an assault.
‘Officers attended, along with colleagues from the Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service.
‘A man has been taken to hospital with potentially life threatening head injuries.’
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said the victim was taken to a major trauma centre as a priority following the attack.

‘We were called a 4:20pm today to West End Lane, West Hampstead to reports of an incident.
‘We sent a single responder in a car and an ambulance crew. London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched to the scene.
‘We a treated a person at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority by road.’
