Leaked pictures show off Samsung’s Android Go phone, but no stock Android

Samsung has been rumored to be working on an Android Go phone for a while, and today, pictures of the device — purportedly called the Galaxy J2 Core — were leaked by SamMobile.

Aside from showing off what to expect from the device’s hardware, the pictures also reveal that while the phone may be part of Google’s stripped-down Android Go program, it’ll still be running Samsung’s own skinned software. As SamMobile points out, if you read the Android Go website carefully, it never does promise that Go phones will feature stock Android — just that they’ll be faster, more efficient entry-level smartphones.

Skin or no, though, Samsung’s phone is still a Go device, which means that it’ll feature the slimmer Go versions of Google apps. But the software is distinctly Samsung’s, down to the icons and on-screen navigation that looks borrowed straight from devices like the Galaxy S9.

There’s no word on when Samsung will release its Android Go phone, what regions it’ll be available in, or how much it’ll cost. But with pictures leaking out, we likely aren’t far from an official reveal in the near future.
