Singer-songwriter Ashe, whose real name is Ashlyn Willson, debuts at No. 6 on Billboard's Emerging Artists chart (dated March 7), thanks to her breakthrough single "Moral of the Story."The track, which Finneas co-produced and co-wrote, concurrently debuts at No. 71 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Ashe's first entry on the chart. It opens with 9.7 million U.S. streams (up 255%, prompting a No. 50 debut on Streaming Songs) and 4,000 downloads sold (up 79%), according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. The song is featured in the Netflix film To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, which premiered Feb. 12.
Ashe also scores her first entry on the Billboard 200 albums chart, as her EP Moral of the Story: Chapter 1 bows at No. 159 with 7,000 equivalent album units. Ashe released the four-song effort (on Mom + Pop Records) in April 2019. The set includes "Story."
Prior to "Story," Ashe logged two entries on Billboard songs charts, as featured on Louis the Child's "Right to It" (No. 33 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, October 2017) and Shaun Frank's "Let You Get Away" (No. 24 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay, January 2017).
Meanwhile, Gabby Barrett scores her second week at No. 1 on Emerging Artists, as her single "I Hope" holds at its No. 6 high on Hot Country Songs and No. 13 best on Country Airplay.
The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard's "Hot" song genre charts and/or consumption-based "Top" album genre rankings.
Among other Emerging Artists chart moves, alternative hip-hop artist Powfu makes his Billboard chart debut, as he opens at No. 32 thanks to his track "Death Bed," featuring Beabadoobie. The song (which samples Beabadoobie's original song "Coffee") drew 6.7 million U.S. streams (up 29%) and 1,000 downloads sold (up 2%) in the tracking week, sparking its debut at No. 10 on the Hot 100's Bubbling Under chart.
Plus, Australian metalcore band Polaris debuts at No. 37 on Emerging Artists, as the group's sophomore album The Death of Me debuts at No. 17 on Heatseekers Albums (3,000 units).
