Miley Cyrus is heading down under next week (March 13) to headline a bushfire relief concert in Melbourne, where she will be joined by performers Lil Nas X, The Veronicas and Seb Fontaine.
Ahead of her performance, Cyrus chatted with Australian news station Sunrise about the special connection she has with the country for the past decade, as she was previously married to Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth.
"Australia has been such a major part of my life for the last 10 to 12 years. It’s kind of been a home away from my home for me," Cyrus explained. "The first time I went to Australia, I really fell in love with it. I was there on a tour, and we had a couple days off and I got to explore. More than, almost anywhere in the world, I think I’ve had more of a personal relationship with it because of the amount of time I’ve been able to spend there."
Additionally, Cyrus can sympathize with the victims of the devastating wildfires; her home in Malibu was destroyed in 2018 due to fires.
"I lost my home in Malibu a couple of years ago, and we were really lucky that we were able to get our animals out safely, and there were a lot of them. Not everyone was as fortunate," she said before adding that she also lost "all my journals, lost a lot of the music and demos."
However, she concluded on a positive note, recalling that she "had seen one of my favorite artists, Mr. Brainwash, at an art gallery and I told him, ‘Man, I lost all my art.’ And he goes, ‘You will make more.’ And I thought, ‘You know what, that’s right, I’ll just make more.’ And that’s the same thing with memories, losing memories, losing things, you’ll make more."
