A motorcyclist has died after been mowed down by a truck that allegedly failed to stop in the inner-Sydney suburb of Ultimo.
Police say the 32-year-old L-plate rider was struck at the corner of Abercrombie Street and Broadway at 2.40pm on Thursday by a white truck.
He was taken to Royal Prince Albert hospital before being pronounced dead.
NSW Ambulance duty operations manager Inspector Paul Delamont said the “gut-wrenching” incident was a terrible thing to happen on the roads.
“The patient’s injuries were extensive and paramedics had to work quickly at the scene – they want to get there as quickly as possible and do everything that can be done to help,” he said.
The male driver of the truck was arrested at 4.50pm and has been taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
A truck has been seized for scientific examination.
Police said it was unclear if the driver had returned to the scene of the crash.
“The circumstances of the collision are still being investigated,” a spokeswoman said.
Local roads were closed by the crash, but reopened by 6pm.
The fatal crash comes after George Yuhan Lin, 21 was killed in an alleged hit and run in Sydney’s CBD earlier in February after being struck by a reversing garbage truck.
