An Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday remanded a 49-year-old businessman, Wale Akinusi, in prison for allegedly defiling his 17-year-old daughter.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, did not take the plea of the accused, and ordered that he be kept in prison pending the advice of the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
Akinusi, who resides at Ojo Igbede Road, Ajangbadi, Lagos, is facing a two counts of unlawful defilement and killing of an unborn child.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Soji Ojaokomo, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on November 2, 2012, at their residence.
He said the accused, forcefully had carnal knowledge of his daughter without her consent and unlawfully killed her unborn child.
“When Akinusi noticed that his daughter was pregnant, he took her to the hospital to abort the unborn child.
“After she aborted the unborn child, the accused started having carnal knowledge of her again.
“The complainant decided to ask for help when she reported the case to the police, who immediately arrested the accused,’’ Ojaokomo stated.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 137 and 234 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
