Newlyweds from Massachusetts could be spending the next 10 years in jail because of the wedding gift they decided to give each other on their wedding night.
The Massachusetts couple allegedly recruited an underage girl from a dating website known as OKCupid to have a threesome with them on the night of their wedding.
The 15-year-old victim was lured from the website by 34-year-old Edward Chang and his 25-year-old wife Thanaphat Ratanasirivillai as a “gift” for each other on their wedding night. They reportedly spent the night with the underage girl after booking the jacuzzi room at a hotel in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
The girl, who was 15 at the time of the incident, told investigators she joined the online site because she “was lonely,” and wanted to “meet people.” After she met Ratanasirivillai through the site, that’s when the threesome was planned and carried out.
If convicted, Chang and his wife could face serious jail time over the 2012 incident, due to the age differences. The husband could face a mandatory 10 years if the jury finds him guilty. Chang’s lawyer, Michael O. Jennings, said to the jury:
“It’s not a website someone uses to troll for youth to have sex with. I believe you’ll hear it’s a very popular website – because it’s free. They had an interest in including a third-party in a sexual relationship.”The couple’s trial will wrap up at some point next week.
Even if the couple had not been aware that the girl was underage at the time of the incident, adding another person to your relationship is probably not the best way to start out your married life together. Do you believe that these newlyweds deserve 10 years in prison? Or is that punishment too harsh? The victim in this story is the 15-year-old who had so little respect for herself that she offered her body as a sexual object for two strangers she met online.
