Justin
Bieber still can't understand why his capuchin monkey pet OG Mally was
confiscated by German officials in 2013, because he had all the correct
paperwork.
The pop star opens up about the drama in a new GQ
interview and admits he now wishes he hadn't ignored his friends and
aides, who urged Bieber not to take the ape on a trip to Europe.
"Honestly, everyone told me not to bring the monkey.
Everybody," the 'What Do You Mean?' singer told the magazine. "I was
like, 'It's gonna be fine, guys!' It was the farthest thing from fine."
Customs bosses in Munich seized the monkey, which
was a birthday gift, as soon as Justin landed at the airport, and OG
Mally was placed under quarantine.
"In
Germany, that monkey's endangered or something...," he added, "but I
had the papers. I even had it written out that he was a circus monkey
and he could travel and all that s**t... Things get twisted."
Bieber
was given two months to produce the paperwork the customs officials
needed to see and when the deadline passed, the pet was moved to a zoo
and Bieber never saw the little ape again.
The capuchin monkey is now a star attraction at the Serengeti Park in Copenhagen, Denmark.
But the drama hasn't put monkey-lover Justin off taking in another ape pet.
"I'm not gonna bring him to Germany or travel with it anymore," he told GQ
when asked about the changes he'd make if he became a monkey owner
again. "People are always like, 'Why did you get a monkey?' If you could
get a monkey, well, you would get a f**ing monkey, too! Monkeys are
awesome."
