A man who escaped from a psychiatric hospital raped a woman on a deserted train platform after she tried to help him.
Ryan Clifford, 28, raped the 30-year-old woman after she tried to help him off a train because he looked ill.

The court heard how Clifford had escaped through a window of the hospital two days before the incident in September last year.
He has been found guilty of two counts of rape and one of assault by penetration after the brutal sex attack, which took place while trains sped past.

The woman told Maidstone Crown Court she had been travelling on the train when she spotted him stumbling and asked if he was ok.
She said: ‘If I see somebody who is ill I will automatically go to help them. At that point I didn’t know he was going to rape me.’

Clifford tried to kiss the woman but when she pulled away he began the 30-minute attack at Swanley train station in Kent.
The court heard how he put his hands around her throat, threatened her, sexually assaulted her and finally raped her. She only managed to escape when a train stopped at the platform.

The woman said: ‘He put a jacket on the floor. It was for him so he wouldn’t graze his knees. I didn’t lay on it.
‘I feel completely ashamed and hateful about my body. No means no. I said no a lot of times.’

After Clifford was arrested, he allegedly told police: ‘I know I have been bad.’
But he claimed that he was ‘not guilty of rape’, adding ‘I met a woman on a train at Swanley. We got off at Swanley. We had consenting sex on the platform.’
Sentencing has been adjourned until after May 16 for a psychiatric report.
