Gator eats gator encounter on viral video: Eating its own is perplexing sight

A gator eating a gator is a sight that is not often observed, so when a photographer captured a video of a bigger gator making dinner out of a smaller gator he posted it online. That video went viral as the buzz started to build around the social media sites.

It’s a bit morbid as this big gator offers no mercy to the smaller reptile as he chomps into his body about mid-way. Many veteran wildlife photographers have not seen this before, but apparently it does occur.
Photographer Alex Figueroa was at the Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland, Florida, on Wednesday when he was lucky enough to come across this and capture the gator eating gator scene. He posted the video online the same day and as of Friday mid-morning it had more than 1.1 million views, reports News Max.
Coming across this gator was a strange encounter for Figueroa. He said he saw a group of people staring at something along the trail when he spotted the alligator with the smaller gator in its mouth. The 10 to 12-foot alligator just sat there with its prey in its mouth for about an hour before he started thrashing the little gator around, reports WTSP News.
There were other photographers there, all of them amazed at what they were seeing. Gary Morse, from the Florida Fish and Wildlife said that this is the time of year that gators get a bit more aggressive between each other.
It’s the beginning of the mating season for Florida’s 1.3 million gators and while they get aggressive among themselves, they are not particularly aggressive toward people. Morse said to stay a good distance away from gators getting aggressive with each other. The park has closed that trail until the mating season ends.
