Stan Wawrinka is looking forward for better result for this
season, especially at the French Open, where the Swiss No. 2 defends
his throne.
Wawrinka will head into the clay-season with plans of making
a great run after low-key start to the season. One of the tournaments
world No. 4 is looking forward to competing is at the French Open, where
he began to establish himself as a legitimate threat to the top players
of the sport after stunning world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
“I have never seen the whole final,” Wawrinka said, reports Tennis World USA.
“I watched the highlights. Good memories, great emotions. In that
moment I was playing a good tennis. I hope to make great results and to
be as high as possible (in the Rankings) at the end of the year.”
Wawrinka
started the season on a winning note after conquering tournaments in
Dubai and Chennai. However, the 31-year-old came up short in the big
events, losing early in Indian Wells and Miami Open against David Goffin
and Andrey Kuznetsov, respectively.
But despite the recent setbacks, Wawrinka, a former champion at the
tournament, is happy taking the competition on clay-court tournaments,
adding that he is pleased with the progress he has made from training
for the Monte Carlo Masters.
“Of course I am happy every year to return to clay. It’s a
surface that I love. I’m happy with my progress in training so far,”
Wawrinka said, reports the ATP’s official website.
“Monte Carlo is a very enjoyable tournament for us, the players. The
setting is magnificent. The conditions are ideal. It’s a Masters 1000,
so I have to be ready from the start and hope to have good results.”
Wawrinka, who has been drawn in the same bracket with Rafael Nadal, opens the tournament against either German Philipp Kohlschreiber or Croatia’s Borna Coric.
