Actress Emma Thompson serenaded Prince Charles
during a royal reception held for British Oscar winners at St James’s
Palace Wednesday. The 67-year-old royal’s wife Camilla, the Duchess of
Cornwall was by his side and looked stunning in a green lace dress as
she greeted the Oscar winners. The royal couple met all of their
talented guests who had won Academy awards for work both in front and
behind the camera.
The “Sense and Sensibility” actress was
clearly floored by the prince and greeted him with “It’s you! You look
gorgeous.” Emma sang as the couple, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall
arrived at the event. She was joined by a host of British acting
royalty, including Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Colin Firth, Jeremy Irons,
Sir Michael Caine and playwright and author Ronald Harwood.
Besides,
Sam Smith, who won the Oscar for Best Original Song this year for the
theme music to Bond film “Spectre,” was also present and was pictured
chatting with the duchess. Meanwhile, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, described Charles as
“charming, he really was, so relaxed, so lovely.” She also praised the
British talent, saying they have a “commitment to training and the craft
and creative.”
The duke and duchess posed for photograph with all the guests:
Charles, who is a keen fan of the dramatic
arts recently appeared in a Hamlet sketch to celebrate William
Shakespeare’s 400th birthday. The heir to the British throne appeared
alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Tim Minchin and Sir Ian McKellan on stage during star-studded gala at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on April 23. The prince delivered the line “to be or not to be” on stage at Shakespeare Live in Stratford.
During the reception, those presented expressed concern regarding acting among the young talent. Judi Dench
said spoke about the future of acting, and said that the costs of
training were too expensive. She joked that the secret to her success in
acting was “good luck.”
