Billy Porter attends the 25th Annual Critics' Choice Awards held at Barker Hangar on Jan. 12, 2020 in Santa Monica, Calif.
In an interview with CBS News, the Pose star delved into his gender-inclusive twist on the classic character. "It hit me when I was on set last week how profound it is that I am playing the fairy godmother; they call it the 'Fab G.' Magic has no gender. We are presenting this character as genderless -- at least that’s how I’m playing it -- and it’s really powerful."
The 50-year-old actor is not only ready to grant Cabello some wishes, but also to breathe new life into this classic fairytale character, which he senses the younger audience will easily embrace.
"This is a classic, this is a classic fairytale for a new generation. I think that the new generation is really ready. The kids are ready. It’s the grown-ups that are slowing stuff down."
Cinderella, which is directed by Kay Cannon (Blockers) and produced by James Corden, is currently being filmed in England before its highly anticipated Feb. 5, 2021, release date.
