Christine and the Queens' Surprise EP 'La Vita Nuova': Watch

When Héloïse Letissier (a.k.a. Christine and the Queens) started teasing a new project, titled La Vita Nuova, earlier this week on Twitter, fans immediately assumed that a new music was coming their way. Turns out they were right, we did get new music — a whole EP's worth of it.
On Thursday (Feb. 27), Christine and the Queens debuted her surprise EP, La Vita Nuova via Because Music and Capitol Records. Translated from Italian to "The New Life," the new record sees the star oscillating back and forth from her native French to English, as she did on lead single "People, I've Been Sad," and even dipping into Italian.
The songs themselves continue Letissier's brand of heart-twinging electropop, while she sings about everything from depression ("People, I've Been Sad"), heartbreak ("Mountains (We Met)"), fear ("Je Disparais Dans Tes Bras") and freedom ("La Vita Nuova," with a surprise feature from Caroline Polachek).
Alongside the new EP, Letissier also debut a short film of the same name, featuring each of the songs off of her EP, rendered into a full story. The entirety of the video takes place at Palais Garnier, the world famous Parisian opera house, filmed along the legendary theater's roof, its stage, and a few other rooms throughout.
The film sees Letissier in a struggle with a character named "The Fauna" (played by French actor Félix Maritaud), a red-eyed, horned creature with a lustful desire for Letissier. As the film progresses, showing the singer in rehearsals and performing at the opera house, The Fauna is eventually discovered passed out and bleeding on the floor, where Letissier ultimately inherits his spirit, and slowly begins to transform into a similar creature with a similarly all-encompassing lust for Polachek's character.
