The Dutch gaffer is hoping to make history repeat itself by leading the Blues to FA Cup glory as caretaker — just as he did after replacing Luiz Felipe Scolari seven years ago.
The Blues dressing room chipped in to buy the departing Dutchman a £20,000 Rolex and Hiddink wants a better one this time round.
He joked: “They spent £20,000 but that was from 25 players. It’s not that expensive. In fact it’s a bit disappointing.”
Hiddink, again without skipper John Terry for tomorrow’s clash with Manchester City, added: “I never wear a watch. But that watch has a special place in my house.
“It was in the hotel on the eve of the final. So it was not, ‘Oh we won the Cup and we give you a watch’.
“It was for the contribution I did. It was not a matter of winning the final but recognition from the team.
“I was touched. It is not about the money but the idea and emotional value. It is engraved with something like ‘Thanks boss’.”
Hiddink’s opposite number Manuel Pellegrini has said the FA Cup will be at the bottom of his priorities.
The Etihad chief said: “We are not saying we are going to lose, we just must prioritise other competitions.
“We try to play with a strong team in every competition. Unfortunately we have just 13 players available.”
